Thailand
If the travel bug finds you and you suddenly want to visit the country to practice Muay Thai, I urge you to read up on the culture before hand. There are many things that people do in other countries that may be found extremely offensive or illegal in Thailand.
Examples:
- When the Thailand national anthem comes on during a movie in Thailand, stand and stop moving. If you do not stand or are moving it could be deemed disrespectful to the royal family and you could be arrested for it.
- Don’t touch anyone on the head. In Thailand, the head is the most sacred part of the body and should be respected.
- Don’t touch or point with your feet (something I embarrassingly did). The feet are considered the filthiest part of the body and therefore is disrespectful to touch people or objects with them.
- And the list goes on….do your homework!!
